WSAD - Left Analog Stick

Post by doho79 »

When I assign WSAD to my left analog stick, my A and D dont strafe as assigned in the game keyboard layout. I am playing Counterstrike: Source. When I press left on the analog stick, my character rotates left circle, not strafe. The same goes for D which is strafe right...my character circles right. W and S work which is forward and backwards respectively. It seems like its emulating mouse look left/right movements instead of strafe left/right. Am i missing something?

Looks fine to me, so I'm guessing this is something peculiar to CS:S. I'm not familiar with the game, so I'm afraid all I can suggest is to see if the game has some kind of native controller support that could be interfering, and if so, how to turn it off.

(There is also the "is it plugged in" question: I assume it doesn't do this when using A or D or W + A/D when simply using the keyboard.)

No it does not do this when using the keyboard....the game controles allow (option) for use of a gamepad and sensitivity for horizontal and vertical movements...it just doesnt make sense that pressing a key physical makes the correct movement but emulating the key on a gamepad it doesnt.

UPDATE: There is a "Strafe Modifier" Key in the keyboard assignements. I assigned a key to it and now my controller looks like this:

Code: Select all

;--- Xpadder Profile Data ---
DataType=Profile
Version=2011.05.13
Name=CS
Set1StickDiagonalSizes=1,45
Set1Button1Name=Next Weapon
Set1Button1Slots=Mouse Wheel Up
Set1Button2Name=Talk
Set1Button2Slots=Right Shift
Set1Button3Name=Reload
Set1Button3Slots=R
Set1Button4Name=Jump
Set1Button4Slots=Space
Set1Button5Name=Crouch
Set1Button5Slots=Left Control
Set1Button5Toggle=1
Set1Button6Name=Walk
Set1Button6Slots=Left Shift
Set1Button6Toggle=1
Set1Button7Name=Alt. Fire
Set1Button7Slots=Right Mouse Button (2)
Set1Button8Name=Fire
Set1Button8Slots=Left Mouse Button (1)
Set1Button9Name=Scoreboard
Set1Button9Slots=Tab
Set1Button10Name=FLashligh
Set1Button10Slots=F
Set1Button11Name=Use/Open
Set1Button11Slots=E
Set1Button12Name=Menu
Set1Button12Slots=Escape
Set1Stick1UpName=Forward
Set1Stick1UpSlots=W
Set1Stick1RightName=Strafe Right
Set1Stick1RightSlots=D,Equals
Set1Stick1DownName=Backwards
Set1Stick1DownSlots=S
Set1Stick1LeftName=Strafe Left
Set1Stick1LeftSlots=A,Equals
Set1Stick2UpName=Look Up
Set1Stick2UpSlots=Mouse Move Up
Set1Stick2UpMouseSpeed=32
Set1Stick2RightName=Look right
Set1Stick2RightSlots=Mouse Move Right
Set1Stick2RightMouseSpeed=32
Set1Stick2DownName=Look Down
Set1Stick2DownSlots=Mouse Move Down
Set1Stick2DownMouseSpeed=32
Set1Stick2LeftName=Look Left
Set1Stick2LeftSlots=Mouse Move Left
Set1Stick2LeftMouseSpeed=32
The only problem now, is that you notice a slight "hicup" when moving left to right.... Also with this key combo assigned (A,= and D,=) it renders my right stick useless... only when i let off the left stick does my right stick work again which is my mouse look. Any suggestions?

And as a side note.... I did not have this problem while using ControlMK and MotionJoy DS3 Tool....those programs were to buggy for me.
