custom fps profile [ major update ]

First Person Shooter
Custom Controller Setup
Xpadder Profile

The following Presentation will explain a custom developed Xpadder Profile which can be used for First Person Shooter games. Most first person shooter games use the left analog stick of controllers for movement. A more experienced gamer like myself however much rather prefer the D Pad for movement. This holds true especially for fast moving games.

* The movement for wasd keys is placed on the directional pad
* The left analog stick is used for such things as inventory
* The sprint key is binded to the right bumper button
* The melee key is binded to the left bumper button
* The use of equipment is binded to the R3 button
* All of the other keys/buttons function as normal

I was playing a simple action game using the Direction pad as the movement source. I began to perform better after a while than I was previously while using the left analog stick for movement. I then thought wow, what if I could use the Direction pad for first person shooter games as well. I tried to get this to work for Black Ops for pc because I knew they allowed gamepad functionality for their game. This however was not enough to get what I needed. I then decided to develop a custom Xpadder profile to suit my needs. The profile I scripted is quite unique. I would say it makes a 3d action game like that of a first person shooter much different than without this profile. It primarily takes the whole misconception of 3d gaming out of the real picture. The key changes to the controller layout are below:

need testers for this profile. It acts more like a 2d gaming profile in a 3d world envirornment. If you are experienced with action games that use the d pad please test this and post anything that could help or be of some admiration.

okay I finished up my changes with more easily usable configurations which still allows for character movement with the directional pad.
-chording is heavily used here. I was informed of what chording was and it acts similar to pushing two buttons at once in order to perform a new task different from pushing the buttons separately at different points in time

-for main set 1 character movement is laid out on directional pad
*mouse and melee are binded to the right thumbstick
*reload, use, switch, jump, prone, crouch binded to aybx buttons as normal
*select has tab for scores, start has esc for menu/exit funtions
*right bumber button Is sprint. It is specially adapted for black ops pc in my profile so that you can stop sprinting as soon as you let go of the sprint button while you are still moving. ( helps in tight areas )
*attatchment 5 is binded to left thumbstick right movement

-for grenade, flash, and equipment set I set up set 2 to be called by a while held of the left bumper button
* while in set two ( you have to be holding left bumper button ) you can through a flash with right bumper button, grenade with right trigger, use equipment with right thumbstick R3 button
*dpad and mouse are same for this set

-for a stealth set ^ This gave me problems for so long with modern warfare 2 but I finally figured out the solution ^ What I always wanted in modern warfare 2 was the use of two analog sticks for pc just like on console. There is a restriction though of only one analog input for pc though. I finally figured out how to utilize it now ^
- By holding the strafe class you can use the mouse as movement instead of the wasd keys
- what this allows is very very small acurrate movements instead of the familiar jump forward with the wasd keys. Like if you are trying to get real close to something and then you just hit it. This will stop that.
* to activate this special stealth set you simply hit the left thumbstick L3 button to toggle between the third set. once you want to leave the 3rd set you hit L3 again.
--**note^ I had to make the mouse settings emulation maxed out in order to achive appropriate affect for this but it was just for the left analog stick only.
* lastly on the stealth set I threw in lean left and lean right on the right analog stick.

Well here is the updated profile. I hope someone can try this out and get back with me on their usage of it.
