IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • Modifier is right shoulder button (RB).
  • Tap X = Use;
  • Hold X = Play Last Tape Recording.
  • {Only for this profile} Camera (Set 2) is set to key 6. You might need to change it if you'd picked up your weapons in a different order.
  • You'll have to experiment with the Menu controls (Set 8) to get the hang of them.
  • If you find you are in the Menu controls ingame, quickly tap Start then Back. Don't Panic!
  • Play the game on HARD {ya Objectivist punk!}.
Later I will expound a more detailed rational behind this Profile's "philosophy". Stay tuned to this station.

*BioShock 2* - BleedingEdge profile ontology

Post by YoJembo »

Skip to the last bit you feel like it...

The key concept behind this profile is alacrity. I can't stand gamepad layouts that won't let me change weapons, and a whole bunch of other stuff, on the fly. So I tried to define actions based on levels of urgency factoring in convenience, simplicity, emerging gameplay and safety {actions that might catch you out}. Greatest urgency... both sticks employed. Medium... Left Stick needed. Lowest... Right Stick maybe, left thumb free. If you try this Profile you will see {feel} what I mean. Also, with simplicity in mind there a standard and a more complex version. Note that crouch is on the DPad Right (Set1), close enough for either thumb but far enough away to avoid hitting the bugger accidentally. Telekinesis Shield is set to toggle now to allow more freedom. And presetable weapon/plasmid combos are available in MarkII so you can get the most out of your quick camera work.

Have a good look at the Profile before using it, trying out the buttons. Note the Modifier button (RB) that gets you Set 2. Try the Start button that shows the Menu controls, tapping it again will take you back to Set 1. Read the IMPORTANT NOTES above. By all means tweak away at this Profile but bear in mind I put a lot of thought into it, as many do here, so give it a fair go.

This BleedingEdge setup is not available on any of the console versions...it is only made possible by the long hard work of Jonathan who created the superlative Xpadder in the first place. So if you haven't joined up for this bargain app. seriously consider it please... and make it worthwhile for this maverick to continue to evolve it {and controller-based PC gaming which we love} into the future.

Cheers & Good Gaming. :D

It seems that v5.7 and earlier cannot handle the new profiles (probably because it reads the version number as v2010 which just blows its mind!)
Upgrade to the latest version here

First thoughts after trying this profile... its really solid. All the buttons seem to be perfectly placed. My only complaint is the overuse of rumble. I would prefer only having rumble for certain things like using the drill, plasmid, or jumping. IMO rumble for things like zoom, first aid, and switching weapons is a little overkill.

Thanks for commenting.

My thinking is you're a lumbering heavy Big Daddy, so you really feel what you do... most of those presses are meant to be mere taps, most button holds are only 0.2secs, so there is only supposed to be a hint of rumble 90% of the time anyway... a little bit of feedback from your actions to help immerse you in the game world. That's the way it plays in the game for me.

Perhaps try it with the rumble settings turned down rather than off {advanced window}.

Hmm, I should have put something about it in the ontology bit above.

Regards.

You need to make sure your controller layout is correct. If you are using the Xbox 360 controller, make sure all your buttons are assigned in your layout. That means triggers, bumpers, and all the buttons need to be assigned.

If you paste this profile without assigning all the buttons you could have problems. Also make sure your Xpadder is up to date.

Is this a custom profile, or just one that follows the button layout of the X-Box 360 controller for the original game? I am new here (just joined today), and played the original Bioshock, so that button layout is the one I prefer. If this is a custom profile which does not follow that layout, is there a profile that does? I have tried to create one myself, but haven't quite figured out how to assign dual functions to buttons.

@gorkypah It's more useful to direct someone to the relevant help pages.
